Abstract

Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) have long been used by the community as the first helper in sick families where the knowledge is passed down from generation to generation. The advantages of medicinal plants are very many starting from the easy way of planting, easy to get, the price is relatively cheap, can be processed by yourself and the side effects are relatively small, while the disadvantages of using medicinal plants, one of which is the weak pharmacological effect that makes handling slow.This study aims to find out the types of medicinal plants, benefits, as well as the characteristics of medicinal plants. The research location was conducted in Medan Johor District which was carried out from December 2021 to February 2022. Data collection in the form of observations, interviews and documentation in the form of photos and videos. The results showed that medicinal plants located in Medan Johor District consisted of 12 types of medicinal plants that are included in the 12th family. This type of medicinal plant comes from a different family.

The processing method of the plant varies from boiling, applying, pounding, chewing, and
grated. The parts of the plant used also vary from rhizomes, roots, stems, and leaves. Plants that are efficacious as medicine mostly contain essential oils that make the plant emit a characteristic aroma. Each plant has different characteristics that can be seen from the shape of the roots, leaves, stems, fruits, and flowers.
