Abstract

Asthma constitutes a chronic respiratory disorder characterized by the narrowing of airways and is generally influenced by hereditary or genetic factors. This study aims to explore the experiences of individuals with hereditary asthma in implementing a healthy lifestyle. To achieve these research objectives, an approach focusing on real experiences and the meanings constructed by individuals living with hereditary asthma was utilized. Through a qualitative descriptive approach with a phenomenological perspective, this study seeks to describe in depth how respondents adjust their lifestyle, regulate healthy living patterns, and adapt to health conditions influenced by genetic factors. Data were collected through in depth interviews with a single respondent who has suffered from asthma since childhood, inherited from the maternal lineage. The research findings reveal that an understanding of genetic factors encourages respondents to adopt a healthy lifestyle, such as avoiding relapse triggers like low air temperatures and foods containing excessive fat, alongside ensuring the continuous availability of medications. This experience implies that the acceptance of genetic conditions can serve as the primary foundation in shaping healthy behavior and enhancing self awareness regarding the importance of continuous health management.
