Abstract

Microtia is a deformity of the outer ear characterized by a small or absent earlobe (anotia). The exact cause of microtia is unknown, but hereditary and environmental factors during pregnancy, including the mother's condition during pregnancy, are thought to play a significant role. This study aimed to explore the experiences of families with special needs children with microtia/anotia in the Laut Dendang area through a descriptive qualitative approach, involving in-depth interviews with families. The results showed that the microtia condition in this study was caused by a lack of folic acid consumption during pregnancy. The family demonstrated sincere acceptance of the child's condition, and provided strong emotional support through encouragement and motivation to maintain the child's confidence. Family support was also evident in the form of full attention and positive expectations for the child's future development.
