PENGARUH MODEL PEMBELAJARAN PROBLEM BASED LEARNING DENGAN BANTUAN BUKU SAKU TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR KRITIS SISWA KELAS X PADA MATERI BIOTEKNOLOGI DI SMA NEGERI 21 MEDAN

The low level of students' critical thinking skills in biology subjects is caused by the lack of student participation in learning, as it is predominantly teacher-centered. This study aims to examine the effect of the problem-based learning model assisted by a pocket book on the critical thinking skills of tenth- grade students on biotechnology material at SMA Negeri 21 Medan. This research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population consisted of all tenth-grade students totaling 279 students. The sample used was one class, namely the experimental class consisting of 36 students. The research instrument was a multiple- choice test consisting of 25 questions. The results showed that the problem-based learning model assisted by a pocket book had an effect on the critical thinking skills of tenth-grade students on biotechnology material at SMA Negeri 21 Medan, as evidenced by the hypothesis test (t-test) result with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the problem-based learning model assisted by a pocket book significantly improves students' critical thinking skills in biology learning.
