Tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) are cultivated plants with high nutritional value, making them widely used as a food ingredient. Genetic variation in the tomato genome significantly determines the productivity and quality of tomato fruit. This study aims to analyze genetic variation in the tomato genome and its implications for productivity and fruit quality using a literature review method. Data were collected and processed from various previous studies using a series of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) methods, DNA sequence analysis, and bioinformatics searches. The results indicate that the SoSPS1 and DefH9-RI-iaaM genes play an important role in increasing sugar content and seedless fruit formation, while genetic variation in fruit firmness and weight significantly influences yield. The high heritability values in several genotypes demonstrate the potential for effective genetic selection to develop superior varieties. In conclusion, understanding genetic variation in the tomato genome can serve as a scientific foundation for developing varieties with superior fruit quality and optimal productivity.
