This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with a STEM approach on students' problem-solving abilities and learning outcomes on the topic of optical instruments at SMPN 3 Medan. The research method used is a Quasi-Experimental Design with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The research sample consists of two classes selected through Simple Random Sampling, namely the experimental class which was given treatment using the STEM-based PBL model and the control class which used direct instruction. The instruments used include an essay-based problem- solving ability test and a multiple-choice learning outcome test, both of which have been validated. The results of data analysis using the Independent T-Test at a significance level of a = 0.05 yielded a Sig. (1- tailed) value of 0.000. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning model with a STEM approach has a positive effect on students' problem-solving abilities and learning outcomes on the topic of optical instruments.
